Yes, it's cheaper than many Irvine apartments, but expect headaches and stress if moving in. Most problems lie within staff and maintenance. My biggest beef is with the manager. At first glance she can be pleasant and accommodating. However, she does not follow through with promises and can be rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. Our closet's length was three mirrored panels. Of course this means that the rod and shelf are also this length. When I moved in, the shelf was severely sagging and the rod was not sturdy. We called maintenance to repair this. The man came, examined it, and said that it would be fine. We could go ahead and put things on the shelf and hang things on the rod. I wasn't pleased with the idea, first 'cause of safety, second 'cause of aesthetics, and third 'cause of function (placing things on the ends of a sagging shelf tend to slide to the center); but he wasn't going to fix it, so I went ahead and used it. A few months later, as my sister was looking for something in the laundry bag, which we keep in the center of the closet, the rod and shelf fell. Furious, I went to the office and complained. Never in my life had a closet collapse on me, especially one causing an injury. Being a broke college student, I can't afford a lawyer, but I wanted some kind of retribution. Though I requested a reduction on rent and reimbursement for a doctor's visit, the most that the office said that they could do was give us free carpet cleaning. I spoke with the manager and she came to investigate the situation. She brought her digital camera and took pictures of our closet. Then she blamed the situation on us, saying that we had too much clothes and our wooden hangers (from Ikea) were too heavy. I know that size of wardrobes are subjective, but being as honest as possible, my wardrobe is not much. She asked to see my sister's injury, and because she couldn't see any physical marks, she says that we lied about her injury. Of course, I went to corporate and complained. Later (two months min. later), she is angry and vents to my roommates (I was out of town) that the situation is our fault, that we lied, and that we shouldn't have gone to corporate to complain when she was going to take care of it. We didn't even get the carpet cleaning! I cannot express the depth of my animosity towards Parkwood's management. I hope The Irvine Company will properly handle this situation to fix the ill reputation of the Parkwood apartments.
